Attend the campaign launch for the Democratic candidates for LYH City Council on Thursday, May 23
Lynchburg Better Together will announce a campaign launch on Thursday, May 23 at 12:00 PM at the base of the Monument Terrace steps (9th and Church Street) to introduce the four Democratic City Council candidates running for a seat on November 5, 2024. Randy Smith (Ward 1), Dr. Sterling Wilder (Ward 2), Dr. James Coleman (Ward 3), and April Watson (Ward 4) will be joined by friends, families and supporters. The candidates will outline their vision for a Lynchburg that represents all residents—prioritizing civility and cooperation amongst council members. The candidates agree that the city council needs to get back to the business of helping Lynchburg thrive, and will emphasize community development and support for our outstanding public schools.
Show Your Support for LYH Queer Town Hall
LYH Councilman Marty Misjuns has accused LYH Queer Town Hall and a member of our progressive community of being “radical extremists.” In response, the Democratic candidates for LYH City Council have just issued an open letter in support of LYH Queer Town Hall. If you would like to sign on to the letter (and we hope you will!) please add your name here.
Tell Legislators to reject Governor Youngkin’s earned sentence credit amendment
Earned sentence credits make the public safer by recognizing the hard work people do while they're in prison. Lawmakers must honor their promise to Virginians and prioritize people, not prisons. Tell your legislator to reject Youngkin’s amendments here.
Sign up to support Democratic candidates running for LYH City Council
We have stellar candidates running in each of Lynchburg’s 4 wards, but they need our help to flip City Council. Sign up to get involved!
Sign up for our Lynchburg City Budget briefing on April 10
Please join us on April 10th at 7:30pm to learn more about the proposed FY 2025 Lynchburg City Budget. After draconian property tax cuts pushed through by Republicans last year, we’re now facing shortfalls and cuts to important city services. This briefing will summarize the key facts and get you ready to attend (and maybe speak!) at the public hearing on April 16th.
Ask Governor Youngkin to Support Women's Right to Control Their Bodies
Several reproductive rights bills have been sent to the Governor for his signature. He has until April 8 to sign or veto them. If he does nothing they will become law. Contact him to urge him to not veto and to support women’s right to control their bodies.

Ask Governor Youngkin to Sign Sensible Gun Violence Protection Legislation

Support SB 377: Campaign Finance Reform
SB377 would prohibit the use of campaign funds for personal expenses (e.g., country club memberships, family vacations, home mortgage payments). The House Appropriations Committee killed the House version of this bill (HB40) by never bringing it up for consideration, so the concern is that SB377 will meet the same fate.
